Length of Parade Route: 1 mile
Judged Parade: Yes
Description of Parade Route: Very narrow streets. The crowd if right on top of the parade route.
Televised Parade: No
Level of Difficulty: This would be a great starter parade. It is very short but great crowd participation. It can be very intense but a good parade to start the year out with.
Parade Dress:
Riders - Long sleeve red shirt, sparkly vest, purple pants/chaps. If weather is cool/cold may wear your cape.
Walkers: Red long sleeve shirts and comfortable shoes.
Equine Dress: RHPC tack, red or purple saddle pad. Red glitter on hoofs. Decorations to include red and purple combinations. We would like to include some green for St. Patrick’s celebration (shamrocks would be great). Be creative.
Description of the Parade: Nothing very spooky on the route. The parade does move slowly. Each entry stops in front of the judges. Great time to do some formation drills. Long wait time in the beginning. We are at the end of the parade. Because the streets are narrow the crowd is right on top of you. Lots of man holes. Will have to cross a wide cross walk white line right by the judges,
Trailers can be parked and do not have to be moved. Parade starts and end at same place.
Okay ladies, it is getting time to dust off your saddles & clean off your horses. Trail riding time is right around the corner. We had lots of good rides last year, let's make this year even better. The first scheduled ride is March 24 at JW's. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Be there and ready to ride by 11:00 a.m. We will go out for a couple of hours and then come back in for lunch. I will bring some soup and crackers for everyone. After lunch we can go back out for another hour or two. Time to start
getting those horses in shape. This year is shaping up to be a great one for all of our trail riders. Come and join us for lots of good trails, good company and some interesting campfire stories.--- Sue Vinyard

The 2012 RHPC Drill Team will be doing our first performance on Sunday, September 29th to support the Ride the Spectrum ride for Autism at Midwest. We have three new members this year: Susie Chirpas, Jackie Jones and Ramonette Dugan. Susie and Jackie have done an excellent job with learning the new routine and are a great addition to the team. Ramonette I’m sure will be a great addition as well as soon as she heals up from her tumble. Returning members are: “Captain” Dana Taylor, Teri Rypel, Joy Fowler, Sheryl Garlish, Lynne Voight, Connie Freese, Jackie Weidner, and Tina Nunez. Due to “blessed” circumstances, Jackie will be helping from the ground this year. She was a great asset to us last year in that capacity and we are pleased that she is continuing her role as consultant.
We look forward to see all the ladies and hearing their hoops and hollers as we debut our new routine!

Parade Start Time: 5:00PM
Parade Captain & Co-Captain: Peg Carson (rafftajean@aol.com) & Rose Terwiske (terwiske@insightbb.com) Please contact the Captain and Co-Captain directly for questions or to sign up for this parade
Length of Parade Route: 1.7 miles
Judged Parade: Yes
Description of Parade Route: Wide streets, crowds far away from horses
Televised Parade: Yes---televised in Kentucky, local channels
Level of Difficulty: NOT a "starter" parade, possible long wait in Staging, elevated train trestle at street where the unit waits before entering parade, unit passes under highway underpass during final part of parade
Parade Dress: Full Dress for "front lines"-Show shirts for front row (2 to 4 riders-shirts provided)
"Just for Fun" Participants-incorporating red and purple in costume
Walkers-red or purple sparkly vests and comfortable walking shoes
Equine Dress: RHPC tack, red and purple combinations included in decoration
Maximum "glitz" with glitter on hoofs (RED GLITTER on lead horses please)
Description of Parade: High visibility parade, bands and large helium balloons are in this parade. Staging is in a paved parking lot with all the other parade units. Water is available in the Staging Area. Port-a-potties also available in the Staging Area. The area in which the equine units wait to be entered into the parade is beside an overhead train trestle, which is the "scary" part of the parade, but the RHPC Walkers are prepared to assist the riders. The parade route is wide and the spectators are far away from the horses. The trailers must be moved to the disband area at the end of the parade route. The trailers are in a secure parking lot and trailer drivers can be "shuttled" back to the staging area, if they are participating in the parade. There is no requirement for trailer drivers to stay with the trailers.
Lodging and Overnight Stabling, if wanted: Some members camp at Deem Lake in southern Indiana. Lodging is also available at the KY Fairgrounds which offers stalls and allows trailers to park in the parking lot and "plug in" to the electric power at the barns. Advance reservations must be made with the KY Fairgrounds but the cost is reasonable. Other members choose to return home after the parade.
Special Note: All the parade units are required to be in the Staging Area earlier in the day. The parade begins at 5:00PM. The waiting time for RHPC depends upon where we are placed in the parade. It could be several hours. We are allowed to have the Smootmobile in Staging with water and storage of snacks, if you bring them. This does make for a very long day for both horses and humans. For those considering the Indy 500 Parade, this may be a good experience if you and your equine are parade qualified and up to the challenge. Please feel free to contact the Parade Captain or Co-Captain if you have questions.
Arrive at 12:30 parade starts at 2:00 p.m. This is a fun, short parade. The residence love seeing the Red Hats and Purple Chaps ladies and their horses. If you have never done a parade before, this one is a great start. We begin by riding through a viewing area through the residence spectator area. Then proceed a leisurely ride through the community neighborhood. Residence wave from their porches. Please email Chris Singleton at cncfarm@embarqmail.com if you would like to participate.
